I subscribe to lossless streaming from Tidal and Qobuz because it simply makes good sense, it’s a giant bargain, and it sounds better than lossy streaming all things considered. But Spotify? No thanks.
I don’t care about Spotify because I do not like their business practices which I’ve talked about before:
Why I Do Not Use Spotify
Spotify Still Sucks
Daniel Ek, Spotify’s CEO, Doubles Down On Greed
In a nutshell, Spotify has done their damn level best to devalue real music and musicians while company CEO Daniel Ek feels he’s in a position to dictate the creative process which is kinda funny coming from a guy who has amassed great wealth on the backs of real musicians and their music. And I say ‘real musicians’ because the company is serving up AI-generated schlock and sticking it into playlists so they don’t have to pay out the typical pittance they pay real musicians. Not to mention Daniel Ek’s extra curricular interest and investment in ‘defense’ companies like German drone maker Helsing.
Ick, Ek. So I say thanks but no thanks to lossless streaming from Spotify.
