Two essentially new turntables from Britain’s Michell Engineering nearly never happens.
As a very happy owner and user of the Gyro SE, I can see why you’d wait a good long while before imagining a re-engineering.
The new Gyro—note the Gyro SE version is still available for $6499 with the T8 Tonearm, Record Clamp and UniCover—has been “completely reengineered beneath the surface, with every major component refined or redesigned to deliver a step-change in performance, usability, and long-term reliability — all while remaining unmistakably a Gyro.”
Among the many improvements, the new Gyro features a 19mm aerospace-grade aluminum chassis with embedded brass counterweights, a high-mass aluminum base plate, and a double-helix bearing for improved lubrication and longevity. I took a few deep breaths before giving the new Gyro a good look as I’m so attached to the classic (and I hope to see one in person soon) but my initial take is—nice!
The new Revolv turntable sits between the Tecnodec ($2199 with the T2 Tonearm and UniCover) and the Gyro in the Michel lineup and it shares the former’s unsuspended design with a high-mass aluminum chassis while the front view shows off its peripheral brass weights, Gyro style.
Both ‘tables spin at 33.3 and 45rpm and include a redesigned motor pod and PSU with electronic speed switching—changing speeds on the original Gyro SE is a manual operation.
The new Michel Gyro and Revolv turntables are available in the US through Fidelity Imports and their dealer network for $8999 and $5999 respectively (without tonearm).
