Question: What music fills you with Joy?

I often think about two of music’s categories—beautiful and joyous. When people ask, typically at hifi shows, what kind of music do you want to hear, they’re looking for answers like “Classical” or “Female Vocal” or “Jazz” or “Large-Scale Classical”. My brain does not have categories representing “Classical” or “Female Vocal” or “Jazz” or “Large-Scale Classical”, rather it has categories like beautiful and joyous, to name just two.

I’ve given more than a hint at someone whose music fills me with joy every single time I listen, but I really want to know—what music fills you with joy?

  1. I can usually find a lot that I’ll like from most genres. But if had to narrow down a couple that give me pure joy I’d have to say Post/Math-rock, and avant-garde/free-improv jazz. But than at the same time I get as much joy out of Richard D. James as I do Peter Brötzmann. I’m all over the map I guess. It’s a really hard question for me to answer.
