Are you a fan of photography? How about photobooks? If you answered in the affirmative x2, boy O boy have I got a book for you.
You may remember Miho Kajioka from our 2020 Holiday Gift Guide or perhaps from the Flowers Bloom, Butterflies Come LP, adorned with her art. Miho Kajioka’s work is delicate, lovely, and casts a searchingly soft-focused eye on the world at large, reminding us that beauty and mystery abound, if we look with more innocent eyes.

And, do you still hear the peacocks? is her latest photobook, published by Belgium gallery Ibasho and French publisher (M)éditions, about her experiences following the earthquake, tsunami and nuclear catastrophe on March 11, 2011, and her return to art.

Right after the accident, I found a blog about peacocks that were left in the evacuation zone, within the 20 km limit. I then began imagining those peacocks, walking around the empty town with their beautiful wings spread …”


And, do you still hear the peacocks? is available from Ibasho in a limited edition of 50 (€ 1981.14) presented in a wooden box, handmade by artisans from Kyoto, with a lid containing one of 25 different prints by Kajioka. Ibasho also offers a regular edition of 500 (€ 183.97).

There’s also a signed edition ($223) available from Japan’s shashasha.
