In Barn for Review: Harbeth NLE-1 Professional Monitor Loudspeaker

“Hey! Harbeth has a new desktop-friendly active speaker. You interested?”

“Absolutely!”And just days later these blue beauties showed up at the Barn door.

the removable front plates (pictured on the right speaker) are meant to be in place when listening

The new Harbeth NLE-1 are an active 2-way speaker built around a Harbeth-made 110mm RADIAL drive unit for mid/bass paired with a 19mm ferrofluid-cooled tweeter powered by 50 Watts of ultra-low-distortion, high damping factor Class-D amplifiers per side. The crossovers are DSP-controlled.

Recessed line level RCA and XLR in, Volume control knobs, power buttons, and IEC inlets tell most of the story around back. But wait!, there’s one more interesting detail:

Personality Mode! That 3-position switch offers 3 Modes—(from the top) Default mode, Bass extension mode, and Near-wall/desktop mode. Nice, especially since the speakers on my desktop sit near the wall!

And they come in colors!

The Harbeth NLE-1, a product from a company with a near 50-year storied history building speakers (!), will soon be sitting on my desktop where I spend time writing & listening. Stay tuned!
