In Barn for Review: Aurorasound VIDA Prima Phono Preamp

“Phono Equalizer Amplifier” is written on the front of the Aurorasound VIDA Prima Phono Preamp cause that’s what it does and is.

The equalizing is done according to RIAA standards, combined NF-type [negative feedback] and CR-type [capacitor/resistor] in one RIAA compensation circuit, while amplification is performed by Linear Technology and Texas Instruments regulators/op-amps. Other high quality parts abound including WIMA film capacitors, Japanese made precision metal film resistors, and a troidal transformer that employs a Schottky barrier diode, Fine-Met beads, and audio grade capacitors.

Two toggle switches reside around back for setting Load and Gain according to MM or MC cartridge requirements, while single-ended RCAs take care of the ins and outs.

you have to love a prominent orange Mute button

Those of you who know me, my taste to be more specific, already know one reason why I am intrigued by the VIDA Prima (you had me at wood-wrapped chassis and Made in Japan). I’ve also heard good things, even very good things, about how it makes records sound. We shall see.
