The Aurender A1000 is a streamer, DAC, premap, and if you add some optional user-installed SSD storage it’s also a server—all your digital needs in one.
On the business end, the A1000 offers what you’d expect in a full function digital streaming source—Optical, Coax, HDMI ARC, USB, and LAN inputs, USB and Coax digital outputs, and 1 pair of single-ended analog RCA outputs that you can run in Fixed or Variable output mode. There’s also a USB port for attaching USB storage, a 12V Trigger Out, a slot for adding 2.5″ SSD/HDD internal storage (up to 8TB), IEC inlet, and power button. You can connect to the Aurender A1000 via Ethernet or Bluetooth up to AptX-HD.
Inside the lovely aluminum chassis resides an AKM4490REQ Dual Mono DAC, a Quad-core 2.0Ghz CPU (ARM Coretex-A55) processor, and a Full Linear Toroidal power supply to cover the highlights. That front panel display is a 6.9″ 1280 x 480 Wide IPS Color LCD screen that has the good sense and good manners to prompt—”Please Select Song”. Something I plan to do post haste!
The front panel offers a number of controls including a backlit ON/OFF/Standby button, input selection, output selection, a volume knob, Display Menu button, Play Previous button, Play/Pause button, and Play Next button. The included remote mimics these functions while the feature rich Aurender Conductor app is at the ready for music playback (and more) and the A1000 also supports Google Cast Audio providing access to Tidal Connect, Qobuz Connect (when available), Spotify Connect and more while Roon Ready certification is in process (yay!).
It’s been some time since I walked around the Aurender app and I look forward to getting reacquainted. That said, I also appreciate the forthcoming option to control the Aurender A1000 using Roon—choice is good when it comes to apps and cheese.
