One active, one passive. Pairs, that is.
The new Dynaudio Contour 20 Black Edition comes in one colorway—black. Because black is always the new black.
We have a price/performance gap between Contour 20i and Confidence 20. So, the question arose – could we lift the performance of the multi-award -winning Contour 20i to ‘Special’ level?
The contour 20 Black Edition is their answer and it’s a 2-way using the company’s top-of-the-range Esotar 3 tweeter mated with an 18cm/7″ NeoTec MSP (Magnesium Silicate Polymer) woofer with a claimed frequency response of 50Hz–23kHz (± 3 dB). If those drivers sound familiar, they are the same as those used in the super-sounding Contour Legacy Limited Edition loudspeakers I reviewed back in October.
From Dynaudio on the Confidence 20A:
With this project we wanted to take our active legacy (XEO, Focus XD, Pro) to the next level.
So, we decided to take our top-of-the-range stand-mounter and make it active…
Makes perfect sense to me. The new 2-way Confidence 20A loudspeakers feature the same Esotar 3 / 7″ NeoTec MSP woofer pairing as found in the Contour 20 Black Edition but here they’re powered by 400W (woofer) and 150W (tweeter) of Class-D power. And the cool part is all of the electronics—amps, DAC, DSP, etc.—are inside the included stands.
The Confidence 20A’s frequency response is a hearty 34Hz – 25kHz (±3dB).

The Contour 20 Black Edition come in at $8,000/pair with the optional Stand 20 stands adding $599/pair while the Confidence 20A are $24,000/pair.
