Album of the Week: Ghosted III by Oren Ambarchi, Johan Berthling and Andreas Werliin

There may be some danger in naming albums as numbered sequels due to the well known fact that movies that do the same typically get worse the higher the number.

Fortunately that does not hold for records (see Led Zeppelin).

From the liner notes:

Ambarchi, Berthling and Werliin are back, a little looser and wilder than before. Their ability to lock in and focus on the smallest of details is enhanced here by a sense of increased immediacy.

Oren Ambarchi (guitar), Johan Berthling (bass), and Andreas Werliin (drums) are up to III in their Ghosted series and I agree with that quote as this music feels concerned with the infinitely small, turning every tick into more than moments if you listen in close bending time to suit the movement not the clock. To my mind, this kind of seamless interplay on a micro level only happens with seasoned players who’ve played together over time turning familiar instruments into flickering beings dancing in space.
