Album of the Week: Bloody Head | Perpetual Eden

I almost picked The Birthday Party’s Junkyard for today but decided to save that for another (kind of) post. In its stead, I give you a direct descendant.

Bloody Head’s Perpetual Eden came out last week on Wrong Speed Records and it’s the band’s 7th release. I haven’t paid close attention to the lyrics yet and I’m not sure I will as my response to this music is more about sound as messenger and less about lyric as message. One of the things I love about The Birthday Party was their hairbrained silliness, an over-the-top so over-the-top they came out sounding genuine. Wallowing in seriousness can get old fast.

Yet, I can still relate to manic energy especially when it maintains a sharp edge and the boys in this band, Dave Bevan (vocals, guitar), Andrew Morgan (guitar), Steve Larder (bass), and Henry Davies (drums) keep things well honed with guts, glory, and percolating mayhem.
