Album of the Week: Lankum

August 14, 2020 Michael Lavorgna

Dublin-based 4-piece Lankum’s latest album The Livelong Day, released in October of 2019 on Rough Trade Records, is a powerful, stunning, and moving mix of the old and new.

Favorite Artists: Albert Pinkham Ryder

August 12, 2020 Michael Lavorgna

Albert Pinkham Ryder introduced my young mind to dark wonder with his painting titled “The Race Track (Death on a Pale Horse).” This work planted a seed, even though I saw it in reproduction, that continues to germinate to this very day.

August 9, 2020 Michael Lavorgna

The Rega P3/RB300 combo (also called the ‘P3 2000’) is about as classic a HiFi Bargain as they come. So says Captain Obvious.

August 6, 2020 Michael Lavorgna

July 31, 2020 Michael Lavorgna

Perhaps more than any other record so far this year, Waxahatchee’s Saint Cloud has taken up permanent residence in my mind’s ear.

Twittering Machines History

July 30, 2020 Michael Lavorgna

Some of you may not know that the Twittering Machines you know is actually its second incarnation: TM launched in its original form in March of 2007. Here’s the very first post:

Did I Say “Retire”?

July 28, 2020 Michael Lavorgna

“The reports of my retirement have been greatly exaggerated.” (Mark Twain’s cousin)

HiFi Bargains: Bluesound Node 2i

July 26, 2020 Michael Lavorgna

Streaming is, without question, one of the major advances in music listening. Costing anywhere from free to around 20 bucks/month, a huge chunk of the big wide wonderful world of recorded music can be delivered directly to your ears. That’s a game-changer if ever there […]
