Chord Unveils the ULTIMA PRE 3 Analog Preamplifier

Chord’s industrial designs always bring to mind Captain Nemo, and that’s a good thing as the looks of many a piece of hifi gear bring to mind not much of anything except yet another sample in a long line of generic looking hifi. Yawn.

The new Chord ULTIMA PRE 3 Analog Preamplifier is a new ground-up design benefiting from the company’s 30-year history. The PRE 3 features low-distortion power supplies, individually buffered inputs (2x XLR, 3x RCA), RFI filtering for all inputs, with a case that’s precision-machined from solid aircraft-grade aluminum that comes in Jett black or Argent silver.

Dual function volume / input selector and balance / AV bypass controls flank the company’s signature porthole polychromatic power button.

The PRE 3, shipping now and making its debut at the upcoming Munich High End 2022 Show, sits very nicely atop the matching Chord Ultima 5 and 6 Power Amplifiers.
