Axpona 2022: Mytek Audio Empire

The Mytek Empire has arrived.

Brooklyn’s Mytek had their highly anticipated Empire Streamer DAC ($24,995) paired up with the matching Empire GanFET Monoblock Amplifiers ($9995) driving a pair of Wilson Sasha DAW Loudpseakers ($39,000/pair) at Axpona 2022. The Empire Streamer DAC is actually much more, as it can function as a Roon Core with 8TB of SSD internal storage (+ another 8TB expansion slot) as well as a Roon endpoint, as a preamplifier with nine analog inputs including MM/MC Phono inputs, with high resolution DSP coming in a future firmware update.

In terms of looks, I am not completely sold on the colored LED tube-like protrusions, they can change color, but maybe they’ll grow on me.

In terms of sound, this system filled the small room—I wish the room was bigger—with warm captivating and expansive music. I was recently also very impressed with Mytek’s little Liberty DAC II (review) and all indications suggest Mytek is on a roll.
