Do you remember the title sequence in the original Ghost in the Shell film, the 1995 animated release, when Motoko Kusanagi is being made? Being born? Being remade?
From the Ghost/Spirit liner notes:
As Reidy describes it “The album is infused with this energy of being absolutely destroyed, and having the potential to be remade.”
These things came together in my head as I listened through Ghost/Spirit, released on Thrill Jockey last week, swept away by Jules Reidy’s stunning mastery of sounds and guitar that also brought to mind The Durutti Column’s The Guitar And Other Machines (1987). But Ghost/Spirit has its own shimmering force, its own unique voice and vision, that transforms listening into salve for the world weary soul.
