As time passes, I’m beginning to think I lose more things than I find.
I first wrote about Jessica Bailiff’s music back in 2023 in this column where I shared her self-titled release, Bailiff’s third studio album. As mentioned in that post, Bailiff was discovered by Alan Sparhawk of Low fame who recommended her to kranky, the label behind five of her six albums including Feels Like Home which was released in 2006. Yea, twenty years ago which brings us back to one of things we tend to lose–time.
Among the things I appreciate about this music is its lack of strain, the sense that each element was well considered and cared for without regard for the kind of churn needed to make a career. I’m reminded of Liz Harris/Grouper and if you know her music I’m sure you’ll hear what I mean. A kind of broken shattered beauty.
