In Barn for Review: Enleum AMP-54R Integrated Amplifier

You know an Enleum when you see one.

No matter what you think of the industrial design of the Enleum AMP-54R one thing is universal and for certain—it is not a box with a faceplate, a very welcome difference according to my eyes.

For the record when we say—”That looks like…”—we’re just talking about, and sharing, our visual vocabulary and in my experience these kinds of comments typically exhibit a limited one.

From a bird’s eye view, the Enleum AMP-54R is an integrated amplifier offering 115 Watts of power into 8 Ohms in High Voltage Mode or 50 Watts into 8 Ohms in High Current Mode. I’ll let Enleum explain the difference:

HV (High Voltage) Mode delivers the full output power of the amplifier, providing 115 watts at 8 ohms or 200 watts at 4 ohms. In this mode, you get maximum power delivery, making it suitable for speakers that require higher voltage to achieve desired sound pressure levels – providing a more “open and dynamic” sound quality.

HC (High Current) Mode reduces the output power to 50 watts at 8 ohms and 100 watts at 4 ohms, but in return, it increases the output bias current much higher than the HV mode. This mode provides enhanced control for higher efficiency loudspeakers, improving dynamic response and transient handling – providing a more “intimate” sound quality.

Enleum refers to the operating mode of the AMP-54R as ‘Class SA” or ‘Smart [Class] A’ as the output transistors remain on—like Class A— but the JET3 bias algorithm constantly monitors and adjusts the output bias in real time so the circuit is not always on—like Class AB.

Enleum also includes a Current-Based MC Phono input along with two RCA analog inputs and two Enlink BNC inputs for use when connecting future Enleum source components.

Here’s Enleum on that MC Phono stage:

The MC input operates with any low voltage MC cartridges, anywhere between 0.2 to 0.5mV and 5 to 20 ohms impedance. As it takes the output current of the MC cartridges, there is no loading calculation necessary. It just “simply” works.
