It seems like I just finished unpacking from Axpona. Because I did just finish unpacking from Axpona.
Can it really be 5 years since I last attended what is my favorite hifi show? Numbers don’t lie and 2019 was the last year of HIGH END Munich show coverage here on Twittering Machines. Time really does fly and the older we get the faster it flows.
Munich is also the largest show with 550 exhibitors, 1,000 brands, 22,000 visitors, and 500 journalists. Wait—500 journalists?! Who knew. No wonder the show organizers allow two full days for trade-only, something I appreciate as it makes for less crowds (I hope) and more ease of coverage but if Axpona was impossible for one person to cover, HIGH END Munich is more than two times more impossible with more than double the number of exhibitors.
My plan of attack is to seek out the new and/or unusual, things I haven’t already covered at Axpona or CAF or reviewed. For me, no trip to Munich would be complete without a long listen (or two) in the Silbatone Acoustics room where they show off impossibly rare hifi from our shared hifi history along with the latest creations from JC Morrison and Dr. Stephano BAE, typically front-ended by ‘tables and things from Frank Schroeder and Thomas Schick. Yum.
But more than gear, Munich allows me reconnect with friends I otherwise don’t get to see and spend time in a lovely, historic city.
