The infamous Nurse With Wound list is the band’s guide to their musical influences, originally included in their first record Chance Meeting on a Dissecting Table of a Sewing Machine and an Umbrella from 1979 (whose title comes from the madly mad and lovingly long prose poem “Les Chants de Maldoror” by Comte de Lautréamont (Isidore Ducasse) first published in 1869.
The List has acted as The Shopping List for people interested in the avant-garde in music from the late 1960s to 1980. I have referred to it. . .a lot. . .over the past few decades, especially when I am in need of the other (it should have been included on my Favorite Sources list).
If you find yourself yearning for a taste of something with more bite than pop, head to The List. And if you find yourself interested in lighting your mind on fire, give Maldoror a read.
