Inside the smart looking Soulution 330 lives a dedicated preamplifier, a dedicated power amplifier, and the review sample came fully loaded with the optional DAC and MC Phono Stage. Just add Rockports.
Four pair of line level inputs (2x RCA, 2x XLR), and a balanced Source-Out join the single set of speaker binding posts while the optional DAC board and MC Phono Stage, that offers impedance (loading) options via the front panel controls or remote, occupy the top slots.
The amplifier, which is based on the technology used in the Soulution Series 5 amplifiers, operates in Class A putting out 120 Watts into 8 Ohm, doubling that into 4 Ohms for 240 W, and doubling that again for 480 Watts into 2 Ohms (dynamic). Six power supplies feed the functions of the 330 with clean, filtered power and the volume control employs high-precision, low-noise metal foil resistors while a second PGA control (Programmable Gain Amplifier) takes over during adjustment to enable the volume to be adjusted smoothly without clicks. As soon as the new desired level value has been selected, the unit returns control to the precision resistors according to Soulution.
The simple front panel features a display with red LEDs, three function buttons (power, mute, prog to enter program mode) and a silky smooth multi-function control for Volume, Volume Dim (as defined in Program Mode), Input Selection, and for navigating the Program Mode menu. An included remote mimics these controls.
As I kinda joked up front, part of the reason for the Soulution’s arrival at this very moment is a system-building concern—I wanted a power partner that ‘matches’ the Rockport Atria II (more info) in terms of performance / price and I’ve been hearing very good things about Soulution amps for some time.
And here we are.
