High End Munich 2022, the show of hifi shows, opens Thursday. I’ll be in the woods of western NJ, tending to the bear, the bees, and the Barn.
Sigh. Going to Munich this year just wasn’t in the cards, and as opening day draws near I find myself already missing all of the things I’ll miss most about Munich and High End.
The Silbatone room is always more than a treat, as the Korean company breaks out the rarest of the rare in historic hifi from Western Electric, museum pieces on display playing music to educate modern ears on the wonders of relevance.
This year, High End Munich promises 550 exhibitors representing 1,500 brands with over 20,000 visitors expected to sample these wares. By comparison, Axpona 2022 offered 138 exhibition rooms representing about 225 brands so you can see why Munich is the show of hifi shows.
I’ll also miss visiting Munich’s wonderful art museums that make for the perfect jet lag cure.
But the thing I’ll miss most is all of the people I only get to see when I see them in Munich. Here’s to next year.
