Discogs Turns 20

Where do you buy your used vinyl? Yard sales, record shops, eBay? While I’ve done all of the above, my favorite place to buy used vinyl is Discogs.

Why Discogs? Because the site offers a ton of useful information about music releases including details of every single version of a given album, EP, or single. Did you know that there are 412 different releases of Kind of Blue? Oy. In any event, I also find that most sellers on Discogs, especially those with good feedback (I generally only buy from sellers with a 98% or higher rating) are honest in their descriptions, unlike some eBay sellers who think near mint is the same as shitty.

There’s also the sheer quantity of available records:

Discogs now has 13 million releases, 7 million artists, and almost 60 million things for sale from 150,000 sellers. And it’s the go-to resource for people that really care about music. None of this would be possible without all of you, whether you’re contributing to the Database, giving suggestions in the forums, or building up your Collections and Wantlists. Thank you, Discogs Community!!

All to say Congratulations to Discogs on 20 years well done. Here’s to at least 20 more.
