I’m a sucker for a good song.
Especially so when it’s sung by a now familiar and well loved voice.
I’m talking about Katie Crutchfield and Waxahatchee’s latest, Tiger’s Blood, released today on Anti-. I’ve been following Crutchfield and Waxahatchee since 2020’s Saint Cloud which led me back in their catalog finding each record a lovely song-filled gem. I was tempted to say “uncut gem” for dramatic effect and as a kind of nod to this music’s Southern sound but decided that was a bunch of tripe.
Tiger’s Blood cuts a fine figure of a record, filled with one great song after another with Katie Crutchfield’s infectious twisty-turny lyrical style and pure joy in the making soulful sound.
