Outsider British folk troubadour Richard Dawson makes music to the beat of his own drummer.
From the album notes:
These seven tracks plunge us into an unreal, fantastical and at times sinister future where social mores have mutated, ethical and physical boundaries have evaporated; a place where you no longer need to engage with anyone but yourself and your own imagination. It’s a leap into a future that is well within reach, in some cases already here.
A sprawling epic of a tale (1 hour 21 minutes), The Ruby Cord travels into the heart of darkness somewhere in the future, a future that feels all too familiar.
To my mind, Dawson’s music feels unfettered, wild at heart, merrily dancing with tragedy.
