Nivhek was born out of a collaboration visual artist Marcel Weber during a residency in Portugal and the Russian Arctic. From Weber’s website:

“After its own death” was born during a residency for Unsound Dislocation: Murmansk, located in the Russian Arctic. Created by NIVHEK (Liz Harris/ Grouper) and visual artist Marcel Weber, also known as MFO, the paradoxically minimalist, harsh, and dreamlike work will explore landscape, nostalgia and isolation via sound and image.

After its own death / Walking in a spiral towards the house is comprised of two tracks, which is where the album gets its title, each broken into two pieces. While this work sounds link Grouper, it also sounds like more. More variation, more travel, more pure beauty. Harris conjures a vast space wherein your heart will flutter if you quiet your mind.

Highly recommended.

After its own death / Walking in a spiral towards the house is available from Bandcamp.
