Album of the Week: mui zyu | Rotten Bun for an Eggless Century

Rotten Bun for an Eggless Century is the first full length from Hong Kong British artist Eva Liu as mui zyu and it feels fantastically familiar.

From the liner notes:

“There’s a meandering between two worlds,” she says. “A kitchen sink reality versus a more fantastical place.”

Merging dreamy pop vocals, discordant video game-inspired sounds, field recordings, and traditional Chinese instruments awash in a sea of synths, Rotten Bun for an Eggless Century is an adventurous journey wrapped in a friendly voice.

A mirror and a window at once.
