Album of the Week: Mabe Fratti | Se Ve Desde Aquí

We’ve talked about Guatemalan-born, Mexico City-based cellist, vocalist, composer and multi-instrumentalist Mabe Fratti before, notably her collaboration with Mexico City-based sound artist Concepción Huerta on 2021’s stunning Estática.

Frattit’e 2021 collaboration with legendary German producer Gudrun Gut, Let’s Talk About The Weather, is another album for the to-do listening list, born out of shared concerns for our planet’s survival.

I am very happy to share Fratti’s new record, Se Ve Desde Aquí, which was released by Tin Angel Records on October 14, 2022. This time around, the songs and stories unfold within a barren—at times jagged—soundscape where crunchy guitar, synths, violin, saxophone, drums, and tape join Fratti’s cello and vocals for a dizzying slow-paced journey of discovery.

Delightful, mysterious and sumptuous, the sounds, movements, and moods at work on Se Ve Desde Aquí feel like miracles of creation, with beauty sprouting from the most unexpected places, slowly and methodically building a fragile world for us to explore.
