Album of the Week: Ladybug 1 by The Bug & Dis Fig

Fever dream.

I’ve been thinking about how listening to The Bug’s music makes me feel and I hit on—fever dream. There’s something about his ominous soundscapes that feel otherworldly like some half remembered nightmare that I’m still waiting to wake up from.

Ladybug 1 is part of Kevin Richard Martin’s, aka The Bug, LADYBUG digital singles series released on his own Pressure imprint on July 3, 2026. Berlin-based producer, performer, vocalist, and DJ, Felicia Chen (Dis Fig) takes the lead on “Vanishing” followed by four variations on that theme.

From the liner notes:

Unexpectedly, the EP conjures the widescreen expansiveness of the devastated Harry Dean Stanton wandering the sun-baked desert of Paris, Texas. But instead of Ry Cooder’s Paris, Texas score and its Blind Lemon Jefferson blues inflections, it’s the super-heavyweight beat, bass and ambient drone of The Bug’s desolation dub that soundtracks Dis Fig’s tale of post-break-up trauma.

Which makes perfect sense seeing as Paris, Texas is one long fever dream (and your woofers will thank you for the workout).
