Blixa sings Bowie. Sold.
Blixa has done a number of notable covers including Tommy James and The Shondells “Crimson and Clover” with Teho Teardo, Lee Hazlewood’s “Sand” from Einstürzende Neubauten’s EP Yü-Gung (highly recommended on vinyl), and Pete Seeger’s “Where Have All the Flowers Gone” sung in German (Sag mir wo die Blumen sind) just like Marlene Deitrich did from Neubauten’s album Lament.
Here, with accompaniment by Nikko Weidemann on piano and backing vocals, Blixa covers 4 Bowie songs with his unique sprechgesang that combines bravado and fragility like no other I know. And then there’s his rasp/scream that feels as if it sprang from a world of hell.
Touching and unsettling in a Blixa kinda way.
