Album of the Week: Billie Marten

Feeding Seahorses By Hand, Billie Marten’s sophomore release, has been feeding my need for the quit and uncluttered. I’d imagine I’ve listened to it through-and-through damn-near every day since its release in April.

Mostly recorded over two weeks to 4-track tape, Feeding Seahorses feels as intimate as a whisper from a lover. There’s a lovely sense of the unfussy which leads to a directness that can be gauzed over by too much studio time. These songs are set pieces dressed in fairly plain clothes making them feel like old friends.

Feeding Seahorses By Hand is highly recommended for anyone in need of mouth-to-ear resuscitation from the day’s grime. Available directly from Billie Marten.
