The wholly organic shape of the new Vivid Audio KAYA S12 standmount speakers ($6500/pair) is more a product of performance than appearance.
From Vivid Audio:
Crucially, and despite its diminutive 12 litre internal volume, the KAYA S12 uses the patented exponentially tapered tube loaded reflex, first developed for its much larger sibling, the GIYA G1, but wrapped around the inside of the enclosure in such a way as to absorb resonance in all directions. Enjoying this near-ideal loading is the newly-designed long throw C100D driver delivering clean precise bass and uncoloured transparent mids to a surprisingly high level. High frequencies are handled by the same tapered tube loaded high-performance D26 tweeter used throughout the entire Vivid range.
The two way, two driver KAYA’s curvaceous cabinet is made from RIMCast Polyurethane and comes in Piano Black, Pearl White, Oyster Matte as well as custom colors like that lovely reptilian green. Sensitivity is a reported 87dB (@ 2.83VRMS at 1m on axis) with an 8 Ohm (5,3Ohm Min) impedance. Frequency response is a healthy 45 – 25,000 Hz (-6dB) from a relatively small speaker that measures about 15.7″ (h) x 9.3″ (w) x 10″ (d) and weighs in at 15 lbs. The company offers both stand- and wall-mount options.
The KAYA S12 will be available before the end of the year.
