MoFi Electronics announced their Peter Madnick-designed UltraPhono Pro Phono Preamplifier yesterday which “brings much of the performance DNA of its flagship MasterPhono to a more accessible price point” according to the press release. Design highlights include fully discrete J-FET & MOSFET input and output stages, fully balanced, DC coupled, servo-controlled signal path from the high-pass filter to the outputs, passive RIAA equalization with zero feedback. Seven-stage regulated balanced power supply, and five selectable resistive loading options via front-panel controlled.

Despite its streamlined design, the UltraPhono Pro is anything but basic. It offers gain up to 71dB while maintaining a wide, linear frequency response of 10Hz–50kHz (±0.2dB) and exceptionally accurate RIAA equalization (±0.05dB). Noise is kept impressively low, allowing the music to emerge from a quiet, stable background.
Front-panel controls provide practical, listener-focused features, including mono mode, muting, a subsonic filter, and dimmable faceplate illumination. Cartridge matching is equally flexible, with multiple loading options for moving-coil cartridges and selectable gain settings for both single-ended and balanced outputs.
