Everyone likes to type “iTunes is dead.” (I do) Beyond the schadenfreude appeal, there’s the clickbatefulnesss of the headline. Truth be told, iTunes is not dead. It’s just been dismembered.
Apple has broken the old iTunes into three logical pieces—Music, TV and Podcasts. That’s yawn-worthy news of the sleepiest variety. Since I abandoned iTunes many years ago for something much better, namely Roon, my initial reaction to its reported death was, “I didn’t realize iTunes was still alive.”
So fret not—your iTunes music library is safe and if you don’t let it read the news, it won’t even notice the difference. iTunes-based apps like Channel D‘s Pure Music will also continue to work without a hiccup.
