In Barn for Review: YG Acoustics Summit Loudspeakers

The Summit Loudspeakers from YG Acoustics sit at the top of their Peak Series that includes a total of five models plus a powered sub.

If you know a thing or two about YG, you know that they made a name for themselves fashioning their BilletCore cones out of slabs of aircraft-grade aluminum alloy. The BilletCore drivers can be found in the YG Reference Series speakers and trickling down into the Summit that sports an 18.5cm (7.25″) BilletCore driver and 26cm (10.25″) BilletCore driver paired with the YG ForgeCore tweeter. A three-way.

From YG:

Our BilletCore cones start life as massive slabs of aircraft-grade aluminum alloy. The drivers are then precisely machined down to a few ounces: over 99% of the material is removed as tiny chips for recycling, and only the desired shape remains. The resulting cone retains the original structure and strength of the raw billet, without any of the strain introduced by bending or stamping into shape. They provide unrivaled bandwidth, exceptionally low distortion and the fastest transient response.

The front baffle is cut from the same cloth—thick aluminum front baffles which are precision machined in-house to a profile guided by detailed computational modeling. Frequency response is rated at 24Hz – 40kHz (woof!) with a 90dB sensitivity and 4 Ohm average load that dips down to a minimum of 2.4 Ohms.

From YG:

Sealed cabinet bodies are made from inch-thick dense resin fiber, curved to exact tolerances in custom presses by experienced European workshops. They include advanced bracing and acoustic absorbers which eliminate cabinet resonances and reflections.

Innovative crossover topologies are optimized through complex simulation and countless hours of critical listening. These designs maximize efficiency and ensure the broadest possible compatibility with amplifiers. Crossovers use the highest quality components and are hand-built on circuit boards that YG machines in-house.

I recommend a visit to the YG website where you can read up on all the tech that goes into every pair.

The review Summit’s (deep) sealed cabinets are finished in Balanced Oak veneer on their sides and back. Flamed Rosewood and Datuk Ebony are also available. I have to say, while I’ve seen some Peak Series speakers at shows they look pretty damn smart up close and personal in Barn.

a single pair of low-mass WBT binding posts per side adorn the Summit’s otherwise unadorned backside

I’m looking forward to making the climb.
