In Barn for Review: Fyne Audio Vintage Classic XII Floorstanding Loudspeakers

Vintage classic, baby.

UK-based Fyne Audio came out of the gates running with 10 speaker lines for home theater and hi-fi use. A uniting star of the Fyne speakers is their coax driver technology which they call IsoFlare.

IsoFlare is Fyne’s proprietary point source technology developed by our own Dr Paul Mills. It is a type of coaxial driver design that places a tweeter at the acoustic centre of a midrange or bass driver, not just on the same axis.

The Vintage Classic XII that just arrived in Barn for review features a 300mm IsoFlare point source driver, multi-fibre bass / midrange cone, with 75mm titanium alloy dome compression tweeter, ferrite magnet system according to Fyne.

Those ridges in the driver are not just for looks. From Fyne:

To provide a non-homogeneous interface, which very effectively terminates cone energy, we employ FyneFluteTM technology.

This variable geometry, within the computer designed fluting, eliminates mis-termination effects and reduces colouration, providing greater musical accuracy.

The Vintage Classic XII  offer front-mounted controls to dial-in “Energy” and “Presence” and as you can see, Fyne includes graphics to show the effects of turning those knobs—High frequency Energy (750Hz – 26kHz) +/- 3dB, Presence (2.5kHz – 5.0kHz) +/- 3dB).

Two pair of speaker binding posts are included for bi-wiring or bi-amping and there’s a down-firing BassTrax Tractrix diffuser hiding out of sight.

Speaking of out of sight, grille clothes are included and I’m still deciding if I prefer the looks of the Vintage Classic XII  with ’em on or off.

Fyne claims a 25Hz- 26kHz  typical in-room frequency response with an easy to drive 96dB sensitivity (2.83 Volt @ 1m) and 8 Ohm nominal load all wrapped in a lovely Walnut veneer.

Vintage classic, baby.
