Cambridge Audio’s CXN100 Network Player Gets Meters

Who doesn’t like meters?

Cambridge Audio, makers of the lovely line of Edge gear that stole my eyes and ears including the Edge A Integrated Amplifier (review) and full Edge stack (review), have added some visual stimulation to their CXN100 network player by way of an over-the-air update—VU Meters! and a Clock Display (not so ! for me since our home is overrun with clocks on everything from appliances to TVs to phones) on its hi-res color screen.

The VU Meter update already hit other Cambridge streaming amp models including the Evo 150 DeLorean Edition that looks pretty darn smart when dressed in woody side panels if you ask me.

Owners can also opt to show album artwork but VU Meters have real retro appeal for some young’uns and old folk alike.

To fill in some data on the CXN100 ($1099), it offers digital and analog out so you could call it a streaming DAC but ‘Network Player’ is itself kinda retro as in CD Player vs CD Transport (former has a DAC, latter doesn’t). Capiche?

Here’s the complete press release from Cambridge:

Cambridge Audio CXN100 Gets VU Meters and Clock Display

28th May 2024: British music and audio pioneer, Cambridge Audio, has introduced VU meters and a clock display to its acclaimed CXN100 network player, via an over-the-air software update.

This update was previously announced for the Evo 75, Evo 150 and Evo 150 DeLorean Edition streaming amplifier models, but due to popular demand has been extended to include the CXN100.

Via an over-the-air (OTA) software update, every CXN100 and Evo model will be able to receive these new display options, accessible via the (i) button on the front of the unit. This gives listeners the choice to switch between viewing the VU meters, an easy-to-read digital clock, or to showcase the current album artwork while playing.

Showing the live signal levels of audio equipment, VU (volume unit) meters have become iconic for the retro ticking needles that defined an analogue audio era.

The CXN100 network player was announced in February 2024 as a ground-up redesign of the multi-award-winning CXN V2.

OTA update available now for CXN100 and all Evo models. Cambridge Audio CXN100 ($1099/£899/€1049) is stocked at cambridgeaudio.com and selected retailers.
