Big speakers, no make that huge speakers, huge room. Not always a winning combination in my experience.
It all depends on the specifics and YG Acoustics filled their huge Nirvana ballroom with the US debut of the aptly-named flagship Titan Loudspeakers which stand 7′ tall and weigh 1,000 lbs per tower. Powered by stacks of electronics from MOON by Simaudio, music sounded at once powerful, natural and properly-sized.
And that’s the thing at times with big speakers in big rooms—music can sound ginormous! as if it was accidentally irradiated due to some government foul-up that also turned ants into dinosaur-sized terrors (none of that is good) which was not the case here.
I lived with a smaller pair of YG speakers, the Sonja 3.3 that stand a mere 5′ 8″ and weigh a relatively svelte 495 lbs per tower and I had a similar experience with them in Barn. From my review:
“I expect big things from big speakers and I think it’s fair to say that through serious engineering and in-house manufacturing chops, YG has delivered on the big speaker promise without losing those qualities that make any great loudspeaker great.”
That goes for the Titan, too.
