The first room I entered for Axpona 2022 was silent.
The new Apex Series from Denmark’s Gryphon Audio Designs represents, as the name suggests, their flagship products. Pictured above is the Apex Power Amplifier which comes in Mono ($198,000) and Stereo ($99,000) configurations. Weighing in at 450 lbs.a piece and delivering 1800 RMS Watts (into one Ohm) of pure Class-A power, you may need to check with a structural engineer before sitting a pair on your floor.
The matching Commander Preamplifier ($63,500) offers a 4.3-inch TFT touch display, while power comes from the separate matching power supply.
I spoke Gryphon’s Sales Director Rune Skov about the reasons for the silent display and part of that story, in my words, had to do with the potentially compromised sound quality from show room conditions where it can be challenging to show a product’s performance to its full potential.
