Album of the Week: The Bug | Fire

Sometimes anger is all that’s left.

Kevin Martin returns as The Bug after a 7-year hiatus with Fire, released today on Ninja Tune, and he’s brought a host of MCs along for one hellacious ride.

If you know The Bug from previous releases, Fire is the third part of a triptych that includes 2008’s London Zoo and 2014’s Angels & Devils, you’ll recognize the now familiar crush of amped up energy and the excoriated sound world that Kevin Martin weaves. Designed to push the heaviest of sound systems to the brink, Fire arrives with perfect timing, on the heels of a long hot summer simmering with man-made suffering.

While I’ve only just begun to digest Fire, it feels like the perfect soundtrack for the madness of the day. Sometimes anger is all that’s left.

Play it loud.
