Album of the Week: Richard Dawson | End of the Middle

You may very well have come to the conclusion that common sense is no longer common.

And things like thoughtfulness and kindness are now passé.

All of which makes greeting a new record from Richard Dawson that much more refreshing, that much more welcome. Songs, especially songs with words and extra-especially relatively simple songs with words ask us to pay close attention, ask us to participate as active listeners. They may even ask us to think.

From the liner notes:

“I wanted this record to be small-scale and very domestic”, Dawson explains, “to be stripped back, stark and naked, and let the lyrics and melodies speak for themselves and for the people in the songs”.

I recommend paying attention to Richard Dawson’s End of the Middle, released today on Domino Recording Co., from end to end.
