I thought I did, but here I hadn’t.
Porridge Radio remains a favorite music maker and their new album Clouds In The Sky They Will Always Be There For Me, released on Secretly Canadian in October, is my most favorite yet.
Here’s Dana Margolin, band leader, lead singer and songwriter:
“Following your gut to the nth point, trusting your friends and their loyalty, trusting yourself to be able to fight with people properly and still come back together. How I want to live is how I want to make records, because making records is my life because my work is my play is my job is my life. It all ties together in this thing, and there are ways to do this that might not kill me.”
Don Monks, who engineered and co-produced Big Thief’s Dragon New Warm Mountain I Believe in You, was enlisted as producer and it sure seems like he mixed in a similar touch of expansive magic on Clouds that adds layers on top of the band’s signature brash wiry wit.
Here’s some of what I said about their last record, Waterslide, Diving Board, Ladder To The Sky:
Frontperson Dana Margolin, drummer Sam Yardley, keyboardist Georgie Stott, and bassist Maddie Ryall have been together since 2014 and three LPs including 2020’s Every Bad which served as my introduction to the band about which I said, “What it does sound like is a band at the top of their game, I look forward to the next one, making some wild-ass high-energy attitude with music attached.”
The next one is Waterslide, Diving Board, Ladder To The Sky. Some of the wildness has been tamed for a few of Waterslide’s quieter moments but that just makes the whole thing more powerful. I look forward to the next one…
And
It’s official. I love Porridge Radio.
And now I have.
