Album of the Week: Lia Kohl | The Ceiling Reposes

You had me at cello.

From an interview with Lia Kohl:

Most often I experience music as a space I am moving through, a kind of architecture. Just as good sculpture contains implied movement; the music I am most drawn to contains space, texture, even a kind of taste.

The Ceiling Reposes mixes Kohl’s cello with found sounds and field recordings, building a soundscape of pure delight amid mystery. The thing about elevating the every day by placing it in a different context is the experience can lead to a heightened state of perception, where all things become foreground. Ideally.

“These trees are magnificent, but even more magnificent is the sublime and moving space between them, as though with their growth it too increased.” Rainer Maria Rilke
