Album of the Week: IDLES

Can we still say punk or post punk to convey subversive? I don’t know but I think not so I’ll call Bristol-based IDLES 2018 album Joy as an Act of Resistance hard-core (wink). High-energy machine-gun fire vocals backed by over driven guitar, bass, and drums. Roots rock?

We’re not a post punk band” Joe Talbot, singer IDLES

It’s so much more productive to listen to music as opposed to trying stick a label on it. Don’t you think?

From “June”:

[Chorus]
Baby shoes for sale: never worn
Baby shoes for sale: never worn
Baby shoes for sale: never worn
Baby shoes for sale: never worn

I buy this entire record from start to finish and find its energy, conviction, and rage (and empathy) moving. Listen loud.
