As far as I’m concerned, the most unsettling foundation to build belief on is certainty.
Certainty may very well be the big bad wolf, the devil, the alien, the other we fear. And for good reason—certainty is an invisible rot capable of toppling civilizations. Just ask the Tower of Babel.
Certainty’s closest cousin, familiarity, may be even more dangerous. Even more insidious.
