Album of the Week: Echaremos el Cielo Abajo a Patadas by teodioteodio

You know how some late 1960’s jazz blasted a big jolt of noise at the beginning of the record? And others from the same period like The Peter Brötzmann Octet were all blast on Machine Gun?

I’m pretty sure it was get our undivided attention, wake us up if you will, and bands like Sonic Youth made these connections clear and this all came to mind when listening to, being blasted through and through by Echaremos el Cielo Abajo a Patadas by Santiago, Chile’s teodioteodio whose name translates (roughly) into ‘i hate you i hate you’ while the album title comes out of translation as “We’ll Kick the Heavens Down.”

Both of these things will give you an inkling of what to expect but listening says this is a record that gets the adrenaline flowing from the get-go and never lets go with its dense complex genre-mixing manic energy. Poetry over pure blast recorded mostly live. The fact that I don’t understand some of the lyrics doesn’t bother me one bit.

Strap in for the ride and let it rip loudly.
