Album of the Week: Black Midi

Some music by some bands screams out—live! Schlagenheim, the debut album from Black Midi, is one of them.

There’s a lot of buzz humming down the wires about Black Midi some bestowing, in the 7th month of the year, “Best of” accolades. I have no idea if that is the case or not, especially seeing as this is more or less a personal thing unless you have a career in music criticism to tend to. What I will say is Black Midi’s Schlagenheim is full of surprises, oddities, and quirks that add up to one badass breath of fresh music.

Singer/guitarist Georgie Greep, singer/guitars Matt Kwasniewski-Kelvin, singer/bassist Cameron Picton, and drummer Morgan Simpson make music as if they’ve been making music together for centuries making Schlagenheim one hellova tight raucous purposefully punch drunk post-punk but so much more debut.

Schlagenheim is available from Rough Trade. Listen long, listen loud.
