MoFi Distribution Named Exclusive U.S. Distributor for Italy’s Diapason Loudspeakers

Brescia, Italy’s Diapason was founded in 1987 by Alessandro Schiavi “a live classical recording engineer who needed a monitor he could trust.”

Diapason offers two lines of speakers—the Reference and Classic Collections—as well as the unique looking Karis Wave standmounts.

Come to think of it, every pair of Diapason speakers is rather unique looking and the company manufacturers their cabinets in-house.

From the company website:

Diapason has always crafted its cabinets using solid wood—often integrally, always substantially. The preferred wood is “Noce Canaletto,” also known as American walnut, but throughout our brand’s history, we’ve also used chestnut, roasted maple, and olive.

Each wood is meticulously treated, primarily to ensure adequate natural drying times: this is the only way to manage the natural variations in the fibers. Large solid wood planks are aged for years: only after this process they can be cut into slats. The seasoning is further refined with a “cooking” process using special vacuum ovens that heat the slats to controlled high temperatures. This optimizes the moisture content of the fibers, stabilizing them mechanically.

And from the press release:

“We took on Diapason because it does something we didn’t already have covered: real Italian cabinet manufacturing paired with a clear voicing philosophy, at a scale most brands can’t match,” said Norbert Schmied, Managing Director of MoFi Distribution. “The existing line is reason enough, but what really got our attention is where Paolo is taking the R&D. Our job now is to give the brand the dealer coverage, support, and visibility to match.”

While I’m sure I’ve heard a pair of Diapasons sometime in my past, I’m looking forward to getting reacquainted.

Press release:

MoFi Distribution Named Exclusive U.S. Distributor for Diapason

Diapason Loudspeakers are now available to U.S. Dealers through MoFi Distribution.

Chicago, IL – [September 22, 2026] – MoFi Distribution is now the exclusive United States distributor for Diapason, the Italian loudspeaker manufacturer, effective immediately.

Diapason designs and builds its speakers in Italy, voicing them against live music rather than other loudspeakers with the cabinet treated as part of the acoustic design rather than styling applied afterward. Founded in 1987 by Alessandro Schiavi, a live classical recording engineer who needed and monitor he could trust and found nothing that satisfied him, the company grew out of the speaker he built for himself, the Prelude I. That founding idea, that a loudspeaker can’t be developed well without real time spent around live music, still guides the brand.

For MoFi, Diapason fills a specific gap: a small-scale Italian manufacturer that controls its own cabinet building and voices by ear, with an artisanal approach built on material selection, woodworking, and solid-wood construction. The current range made the case on its own, but what Paolo Tezzon has in development weighed just as heavily in MoFi’s decision to take the brand on.

We took on Diapason because it does something we didn’t already have covered: real Italian cabinet manufacturing paired with a clear voicing philosophy, at a scale most brands can’t match,” said Norbert Schmied, Managing Director of MoFi Distribution. “The existing line is reason enough, but what really got our attention is where Paolo is taking the R&D. Our job now is to give the brand the dealer coverage, support, and visibility to match.” That next stage is already visible in Didascalìa, Diapason’s flagship loudspeaker and the foundation of a new technical platform built around proprietary drive units and new design solutions.

This is exciting for the brand, and it’s personal for me,” said Paolo Tezzon, Head of Research & Development at Diapason. “Norbert, Dan Wakefield, and I have worked in and around the same company over the years, and those relationships lasted. Diapason is in the right hands in the U.S.

The Diapason line is available now through MoFi Distribution’s authorized U.S. dealer network. MoFi Distribution will handle sales, marketing, product support, and dealer support for the brand across the United States. Current and prospective dealers can contact MoFi Distribution for line details, availability, and dealership inquiries.

About Diapason

Diapason has designed and manufactured loudspeakers entirely in Brescia, Italy since 1987, using an artisanal approach that combines acoustic engineering with traditional woodworking and extensive use of solid wood. Speakers are voiced against live performance, with the cabinet treated as part of the acoustic system rather than simply an enclosure. Its new flagship, Didascalìa, introduces a technical platform built around proprietary drive units and new engineering solutions, extending that philosophy into the company’s latest generation of loudspeakers.
