Recommended Systems: An Introduction

I’ve been thinking about recommending recommended systems forever.

Forever because component and speaker reviews only tell us so much by their very nature. Stepping back into real life we all listen to systems making them infinitely more important than anything anyone can say about a DAC, amp, or speaker. Seeing as this is the case for each and every one of us, equipment reviews only go so far toward that end.

I’ve dabbled with system recommendations in the past but I’ve decided to make this an ongoing feature here at Twittering Machines mainly because I see their value as a non-reviewer and as a reviewer I am in a position to offer some of my favorites selected from all the gear that comes and goes into and out of the Barn.

On that note, recommended systems are a natural outgrowth of my process as I take care in selecting speakers and components to coincide for review that I know will work together from direct experience or have more than a hunch they will based on research.

In terms of the rules & regulations for Recommended Systems, here’s my working list:

  1. Every recommended system will only include gear I have direct experience with and ideally have reviewed.
  2. There are no price constraints whatsoever on either end of the scale.
  3. Recommended systems will be comprised of components and speakers leaving things like cables, racks, and accessories up to you.
  4. Everything from small active to big passive speakers are fair game for inclusion.
  5. For each recommended system I’ll explain why I made these specific choices and talk about my experience with the system and/or each component in detail.

That’s the plan and I’m already putting together my first Recommended System to kick things off.

Stay tuned!
