I reviewed the Ideon Audio Ayazi mk2 DAC along with their 3R Master Time Black Star external clock last year and concluded, in part, “There’s no better surprise in hifi than being startled by an unexpected level of musical engagement.”

I love a top-loading CD transport because of the obvious reference to their much loved forebearer, the turntable. I also love a CD transport whose only job is to spin, read, and translate pits and lands to bits, the food of DACs.

I spied with my little eye the diminutive Wattson Emerson ANALOG streaming DAC on David Cope’s Old Forge Audio Instagram page and thought, “Mmm. Interesting.”

The Grimm Audio MU1 can function as a Roon Core and Roon Ready endpoint, sending out digital audio via S/PDIF or AES/EBU to your DAC-O-choice. Seeing as I prefer to run with AES, that’s how I plan to use the MU1 during its Barn stay.
