Album of the Week: The Ephemeron Loop | Psychonautic Escapism

“a synaesthetic acid bath”

Why not be kind?

Clearly this is too much to ask of many, so self-reflective sensitive souls can get deeper down in the mire than the self-assured bozos bouncing along a sheep path they think is of their own making (don’t tread on me!) banning this, burning that, fearful of where people pee (fear and ignorance are the real threat to liberty). I have a feeling Vymethoxy Redspiders of The Ephemeron Loop has spent real time down low.

From the liner notes:

Born from the fractal innerworld of Vymethoxy Redspiders, better known as Urocerus Gigas from Leeds-based xenofeminist crisis energy rock duo Guttersnipe, The Ephemeron Loop’s debut is a synaesthetic acid bath that cracks open the doors of perception to reveal a sonic landscape of ineffable beauty, divine femininity and continual transformation.

These same notes also mention the Cocteau Twins’ Elizabeth Fraser, which I heard the first time I listened past the opening track’s crackling warning. This is far from easy listening but I find myself craving challenging music at times and lately it’s been that time. Amid the electronic hash and static rise moments of real beauty, hope?, that—taken in as a whole for its 1 hour and 21 minute duration—may leave you floating.
