Who? Robyn G Shiels is from Belfast and he’s one hell of a singer songwriter. That’s who.
I cannot count the number of times in my life I’ve had a feeling in my head that was trying to tell me something and that something always turns out to be, “Listen to John Prine.” Lately, there’s another feeling and it’s saying, “Listen to Robyn G Shiels’ Death of the Shadows.” I’m not saying that these guys sound alike. What I am saying is they fill a similar hole.
Death of the Shadows is a lovely 17-minute’s worth of songs and stories and the more I listen, the more right they feel. Like old bones singing about old bones stuff.
Try it on for size and if it feels a bit loose, give it some time. You’ll grow into it.
